Title: My Story

Hello! Everybody, my name is Irene. I am nine years old. I would like to ask you a question. Do you like your friends? Now I'm going to tell you a story about my friends.

When I was in the first grade, I didn't like my classmates because they used to be angry at me. They would say “You are my friend!” just in order to eat my cookies. So I didn't like them.

But one day, I woke up in the morning. It was a very cold and windy day. My mom asked me to wear my jacket and my vest. After that I had my favorite breakfast. I took my backpack and lunchbox to school. When I was in the class, my classmates asked “Do you want to play with us?” I was very happy, so I said “O.K!” and played with them. From that moment, they became my good friends. I like them.

I also like my friends at ABC English School because they are friendly. They like to smile all the time. Besides, their English are good, and they won't be angry at me. They are generous and kind. They won't take someone's things without permission. This is the reason why I like my friends at ABC English School.

Now, there are many friends like to play with me. I like both of my English School's friends and elementary school's friends.

Hi, my name is Sophia She. I was born in Timaru New Zealand. When I was 1 year and 4 months old, I moved to Shanghai. I went to Day Care there and I cried a lot. So my mom didn't let me go anymore. I was bored. I went to Bei Jin next. I went to KA there and I loved it. There were slides everywhere. So I stayed there for about 2 years, then I moved to another place in Bei Jin. I went to kindergarten. One of my neighbors is Lina. But I’ve never talked to her before because I haven’t learnt English yet. At last, I moved to Taipei. I went to TAS (Taipei America school). I started first grade there. Iit is an English school. I worked very hard because my English was bad.

I want to be a doctor when I grow up. I want to be a surgery. My mom said I am perfect for a doctor because when my mom fell, I always help her up and give her a bandage. Even when I am doing my favorite thing, reading. My favorite pet is a kitten because it is super cute. I am going to have a kitten when I go to Shanghai. My house in Shanghai has 4 floors, 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. There is a 580 pieces puzzle in my room. It is a picture of snow white. I will go to Shanghai international school. It is very big. If you go there, you would get lost. Our school has 2 soccer fields and 50 basketball fields. My father’s father was a professor in university, and my mother's father was a principal, but they didn't work in the same school.

I know English and a little Chinese now. I know how to speak and read Chinese, but I am not so good at writing Chinese. I am good at piano, and hula-hoop. I can write cursive, it is fun. I learned at school. We have lots of classes at school (TAS), like art, music, computer, PE, music activity (only in third grade), ESL, Chinese, reading, writing and math. My favorite subjects are math and PE. We are reading a book in school called Oggie Cooder. He is very poor. His mother and father works in a second hand shop, called Never Throw Away Things. My teacher, Ms. Sandler reads us one –two chapters a day. When she stops, we always say "nooooooooooooooooo."Once, there was a sub coming to our class, she is going to read Oggie Cooder. Ms. Sandler wrote her a note that said, "If you read to page 287, don't keep reading, even if the children say, "nooooooooooooooooo".

My mommy is very pretty. She has long hair, big eyes and small mouth. She is not tall and she is chubby. She helps me with many things.

Do you know what things she help me for? She cooks for me and my brother. She helps me when I don't know how to do my homework. She buys me many clothes. She washes my clothes when they are dirty. She takes me to school and then she has to work immediately. After work, she picks me up and takes me home.

My mommy's favorite amusements are reading books and watching TV. She likes to read Harry Potter. She likes to watch funny or cooking programs on TV.She also likes to buy something for me or play with me and she likes to go shopping!She likes to talk with me when I was sad or glad.

Her special skill is cooking. She likes to cook spaghetti.It is so delicious. She can make many delicious dishes such as sandwich, spaghetti, curry and omelette.I like to eat all of them because they are full of my mommy's love.

I would like to say“Thank you for doing many, many things for me all this years. You work very hard and I am so lucky that you are my mommy. You are the best mommy of the world. I love you very much. I'll do my best to be your doughter.”

I like learning how to play a kite from Melody because it is fun. But she is busy lately. She doesn't have time to teach me how to play a kite. I hope one day Melody will teach me how to play a kite.

身為太陽係ㄧ員的我們,終於來到了台北市立天文館來一探宇宙的奧秘。
太陽系有九大行星,你知道地球位在第幾個嗎?溫度最低的行星又是哪一個呢?
另外,相同的東西來到不同的行星上會有不同的重量你知道嗎?
透過展示場的立體模型,我們可以了解太陽宇行星間的運動喔!

給家長的一封信

親愛的家長:

快樂的暑假將接近尾聲了‚從今天起孩子們該開始收心‚並檢查暑假作業是否完成。

在此提醒家長們:四、五、六年級的小朋友在開學一週後‚會測驗上ㄧ學年度的國、英、數三科﹔暑假作業若是補充旅行遊記‚能夠特別加分喔!

ABC邁入了第12個年頭‚謝謝各位家長及小朋友的支持與鼓勵。在目前不景氣的大環境下‚已有八年未調整英文班學費‚雖然使我們經營的備感辛苦‚這學期仍然不會調漲英文班學費(但如班上人數低於五人則不在此限)‚因為英語教育仍是我的最愛。Marvin伯伯和我會繼續努力把孩子們照顧好‚讓他們不僅能在學業上有所進步‚同時在品德與價值觀上有正確的方向及行為表現。

這學期因美元下跌‚故英文課本費用也跟著調降﹔但油價、物價持續居高不下‚不得不再稍微調整課輔班的費用(每月200元)‚期盼親愛的家長能體諒。

Fall 2008 (2008 秋季班) 將於9月1日起與國中、小同時開課,並於2009年1月23日結束。隨函附上貴寶貝之課程表、行事曆及學費單(G.2.2及G.5的上課時間有更動)。8月25日前完成註冊並繳交全期學費者‚可享英文班500元學費優惠、課輔班500元學費優惠。 敬請把握機會!

淚和笑 天母國小三年級 吳姵儀

我們人生中都笑過和哭過,那麼現在我就告訴你,我的淚和笑。笑會讓人帶來快樂。

有一次,哥哥的褲子穿反了,他自己不知道。走出大門他才發現自己的褲子穿反了,大家都笑他褲子穿反了!還有一次老師發考卷她說:「王小明一百分,吳姵儀九十九分……」。後來我問老師為什麼錯,她不敢回答因為每個人的考卷題目不一樣,原來老師也出糗過。全班都大笑了。

那淚又是什麼?淚是人一生中最常見的事,像是我被老師打結果流血,我就哭了。還有一次為了我們讀書,所以爸爸說得把小狗送走,不然以後我們會很不專心,所以爸爸隔天就把小狗給送走了,結果我哭了。

所以笑跟淚都是人生中得擁有的,淚水是痛苦的聲音,而笑聲則是在長大!

老師評語:結構完整,但文字中帶出的火花和反省不夠強烈,要再加
油。去認真思考笑的種類:大笑、微笑、假笑……;哭的種
類又如:掉淚、大哭大叫、高興的淚、難過的淚……。每個

我們都有淚和笑,那麼現在就讓我告訴你,我的淚和笑有多麼誇張吧!

有一次,在要出發去阿嬤家的時候,哥哥發現地板上有爸爸的內褲,他就說:「地板上怎麼會有爸爸的內褲?」,這時候媽媽從房間走出來,沒聽清楚,媽媽就說:「地板上有芭樂?」。因為哥哥說的「爸爸」,媽媽聽成「芭樂」,讓我笑得肚皮都快破了,真是好笑呀!

有一次,我把瓶子用破了,我哭了,媽媽就說:「沒關係,碎碎平安呀!(音同:歲)」。這件事到現在我都還沒忘記了呢!

歡笑跟淚水都是人生必備的東西,所以我們要從中仔細體會笑跟淚的重要。

試想各種情況的笑或淚,加以深入描寫,文章會更棒的。

小時候我非常愛哭,像是有一次我因為一個小小的責罵而開始大哭。家人看見我哭了就馬上過來安慰我,我想停止哭泣,可是我怎麼樣都停不下來,我想是因為人哭可以把身體裡的不安,生氣和不好的情緒用淚將它排出體內。

我現在又更堅強了,就算傷心或生氣,我都用微笑去面對。我變得很愛笑,在遊戲中我一定都會露出我開朗的微笑。笑可以讓更多人想和你做朋友,我只要開心我就會在床上興奮的跳來跳去。因為笑可以讓人的身體更健康,所以我現在常常都在微笑。

笑和淚是人們一定會經過的,我們不能不笑也不能不哭。

Palace Museum 08/08/2008

校外教學(三) -- 國立故宮博物院


今天我們來到歷史悠久的故宮博物館參觀。我們首先觀賞ㄧ部3D動畫"國寶總動員"。片中主角有國寶級的文物如嬰兒枕、玉辟邪、玉鴨等,主題則為描述三個主角如何尋找從翠玉白菜上飛走的螽斯之緊張刺激的整個歷程。

接著大家一起去逛了禮品店,Ms.Jane買了一個特別的禮物,送給她的爸爸當作父親節禮物喔!

Ms.Jane未免也太懶惰了吧~

我的小天地 天母國小三年級 吳姵儀

我的小天地就是我那張軟綿綿的床,它是我早晚必須用到的物品。ㄧ進我的房間就會看到一張藍色背景上面住滿好多可愛動物的床,這是我每天睡覺的地方。床上擺了一大堆娃娃和一隻用來叫醒我的鴨子時鐘。

我的小床旁邊有一個書櫃,書櫃裡放了各式各樣的書,有──―小說、童話故事、漫畫、雜誌、歷史故事、百科全書還有我的自修。書櫃前面有書桌,書桌上放了一隻黃色的鉛筆、超長的尺、ㄧ盞超亮的檯燈、可以擦得很乾淨的橡皮擦、原子筆、自動筆和立可白。書桌是給我用來畫畫、看書、寫功用的。旁邊有一個窗戶,光線好、空氣流通、窗台上還有三盆美麗的盆栽呢!

我喜歡我的小天地,當我不開心時,我會在我的小天地裡哭哭鬧鬧丟枕頭、玩玩玩具或聽ipod才能讓心情好轉。假如朋友來我家,我們都會在小天地看書、聊天、寫作業、玩玩具。

我愛我的小天地,我要好好保護它,美化它,讓它更乾淨更舒服!

我有一個屬於自己的房間,那個房間就是我的小天地,我非常喜歡我的小天地,因為那裡有舒適的床、乾淨的棉被、涼爽的冷氣和寫起字來很舒服的書桌,那裡也是我和妹妹玩遊戲的地方,也是我睡覺的地方。

有時候我生氣時,會到我的小天地哭,哭久了就不哭了,有時候玩捉迷藏我也會躲到小天地裡,因為那裡有很多角落是別人不容易注意到的地方,所以妹妹常常找不到我躲在哪裡,可是換妹妹躲的時候我ㄧ次就可以找到她,因為常常櫃子凸凸的或椅子突然動了起來,有時候撞到桌子大哭起來,就常常被我抓到她的馬尾。

在小天地裡想做什麼就做什麼,想玩遊戲也可以玩,想睡覺也可以睡,感覺真是自在又舒服啊!

我好愛我的小天地,像孝順父母長輩那樣的愛我的小天地,小天地裡應有盡有,要什麼就有什麼,而且我很喜歡和我的小天地膩在一起。除了爸爸和媽媽叫我來吃飯時,我才會離開我的小天地,但是ㄧ吃完就馬上跑到我的小天地裡休息,寫功課時雖然不能陪小天地玩,但是我還是能在小天地裡寫功課,這樣我就滿足了。

我有屬於自己的小天地,你們有嗎?如果沒有的話,你可以自己創造一個屬於自己的小天地,因為當你生氣、難過時,你可以到小天地裡聽音樂,這樣就不會難過傷心了。

你有等過廁所嗎?你有等過美食嗎?你有等過交通工具嗎?你有等發考卷過嗎?你有等過老師嗎?……,很多人都有等過的經驗,現在讓我告訴你,我最難忘的等的滋味是什麼吧!

我最難忘的事情就是等廁所,有一次,我在飯店吃飯的時候,想上廁所,我就跑到女廁去,一打開門,哇!怎麼有這麼多人在排隊呀!過了很久,原來有一個人在廁所待了三十分鐘了,不知道是不是大便跑到馬桶外面了?不然為什麼待在裡面這麼久?

後來才知道他的重要東西掉到馬桶裡了,難怪在廁所裡待了這麼久,害我無法上廁所。

(一)我最愛看的電視節目 天母國小二年級 鐘宜瑾
我最愛看的電視節目是哆啦A夢,播出的時間是7:00~7:30,電視台是八大綜合台。有一次,哥哥在看時,我也跟著坐下來看,發現內容有趣,我就一直在看了。主角是哆啦A夢,描寫一隻機器貓從22世紀來到現在幫助一位小朋友的有趣故事。
這個卡通充滿想像力,他的百寶袋有很多稀奇古怪的道具,也很有創造力,這個卡通告訴我們凡事都要靠自己努力,這樣才會成功。播出前我會想看今天又有什麼稀奇古怪的道具,所以會很興奮,播出中,我會很專心的看,有時候連媽媽叫我都聽不到,播出後,我會想想看,他是這麼做,我會怎麼做?看電視會讓我得到很多知識,可以放鬆心情,可以跟上時代,學學有用的東西……等。
不只是哆啦A夢,像是體育節目─棒球,可以看到精采的棒球節目,又可以得到棒球的知識。看電視的壞處就是會近視,有些片子不好會讓小孩學壞,變看電視邊吃東西會發胖,每天看30分鐘就好,不要看不好的片子,要不然會學壞,還有不可以邊吃東西邊看電視,要不然會發胖。

師長評語:本篇文章出自二年級小朋友鐘宜瑾之手,真是令人驚豔,結構完整先不談,內容完整而且豐富,哆啦A夢真的是大大小小的朋友們的成長記憶。宜瑾因為哆拉A夢的想像力才具有現在這樣的創造力嗎?非常棒的文章!


(二)我最愛看的電視節目 石牌國小三年級 李昱蓁
我最愛看的電視節目是阿信,每個禮拜一到四的晚上八點到十點,我都會到電視前面看著阿信的節目。
阿信這部戲劇是在介紹阿信的一生,她家非常窮,她從七歲就到別人家去幫傭,有一次她因為想念媽媽,就從幫傭的地方走回家,非常感人。
每次我在看阿信時,我的哥哥都吵著要看「愛」,但是我們都不把遙控器給他,因為我們全家都要看「阿信」,最後哥哥也跟我們一起看阿信。
我會喜歡看阿信是因為老師有一次在上課時告訴我們劇情,而且老師邊講邊哭,讓我看了很感動。
其實看電視有好處也有壞處,其中好處是可以讓我們增廣見聞,壞處是看太久可能會近視。

阿信是最近重播的片子,但造成的熱度依然不減,昱蓁能把握阿信特色,把哥哥從別台變成阿信的觀眾,來證明「阿信」故事的魅力,真的很有技巧喔!

A Letter to Parents by Warren

Dear Parents of ABC English School,

In this past month, a lot of material has been covered with all of the students in my class and their progress is showing. The kids have learned how to properly use plural nouns and possessive nouns in the classroom. As you may have already known, we have covered two interesting stories: The Bremen Town Musicians and A Turkey for Thanksgiving. We ask that you spend time with your kids on a daily basis to read their stories with them, as some of the children in the class do not spend enough time doing so. The other teachers and I are available for them to come to if they need anyone to read to or need help with the class or their homework. The children are also required to do a reading log every other week. It is required for them to read another English book outside of the classroom to get more practice with reading. Please encourage them to do so.

In this upcoming month, we will be working on a small science fair within the class. Each student will have their own project instructions and guidelines. I will help them understand and make their projects but parents may need to help the children obtain materials depending on their project. These are usually common household items such as newspapers, glue, baking soda, water bottles, etc. I hope that the kids are having fun learning English and if you or the kids have any questions or comments feel free to contact me via cell phone or find me at the school.

這個月,我們教了兩課「布萊梅的樂師」及「感恩節火雞」,孩子們學得都不錯!但有兩件事,可否請家長配合:1.與孩子們一同念課文;2 提醒孩子每兩星期寫Reading Log。如果孩子們有任何英文課業上的問題,ABC的全體老師很樂意協助他們。
接下來的這個月,我們在課堂上會有一項小科學實驗。我會協助他們了解並完成他們的實驗,但家長需要幫助他們取得一些如報紙、膠水、發酵粉及水瓶等日常用品。我希望孩子可以快樂學英文,若您或孩子們有任何的問題或意見,可以打我的電話聯絡或來校面談。

親愛的G 1家長:

很榮幸這學期當上貴寶貝英文導師,我會盡我所能教好貴寶貝的基礎英文‚以利他們升上G 2 時交給外國老師帶。

目前, 我們已考完第一次月考,大部份的小朋友都考得不錯, 小部份的小朋友錯在單字沒背熟。文法上我們學的是比較基本的, 名詞、專有名詞、特殊稱謂等需大寫。Phonics 上, 長母音a, i, 及複習短母音。每篇課文都跟三本習作有關, 故當孩子們在寫習作時也可加深印象。

另外, 我又加入一本小故事書供孩子加強閱讀能力,除了課文外‚ 請孩子每天一定要讀一遍故事給您聽‚「熟能生巧」孩子的閱讀能力自然會增加‚在這裡我要特別誇獎Kevin顏‚他每天至少讀5遍以上。(孩子讀完故事書or課文-CD‚請務必簽名)

其次, 一星期一次的Reading Log記得提醒孩子要寫, 讀後心得可以是一句or 兩句‚只要有寫為了鼓勵孩子‚我一定給Stamp。

最後‚孩子們在國小所學的英文如有任何問題‚ 我都很樂意個別指導。

A note to parents by John G. 給家長的一封信

A Note to Parents:
I would like to let you know that we will be having our monthly test this Wednesday, March 19th.
The past month we have covered two new stories, “Tops and Bottoms” and “William’s House.” The vocabulary and story structure is starting to become more difficult as your child’s level of English increases. For this reason, I have decided to start recording the stories in my own voice to allow the students to listen along as they read. This will allow them to hear how to properly pronounce the words. Please encourage your child to not only read but listen to the stories as well.
I have been told that some of the students are having a difficult time with some of the grammar. This past month we have studied singular and plural possessive nouns. I feel the children now have a pretty good grasp and have displayed so. We have spent quite a bit of time on this as to ensure they do understand.
I would like to take a moment and give you my opinion on this topic. The grammar that is taught in bushibans here in Taiwan is often more advanced than the grammar we receive for the same age group back in North America. I believe too much emphasis is put on grammar, which is very extensive in English. This often leads to a fear of speaking English for a non-native learner of the language. Of course the basics of grammar are necessary, but anything that takes away the students’ enjoyment or self-expression only hinders development, not help. We would rather be focusing on reading, writing and speaking as opposed to too much grammar, which can be very confusing for students. When my students and I have a conversation, I try to encourage them speak, without fear of my constantly correcting their grammar. I try to get them speaking naturally and just expressing themselves in an adequate way. Too much grammar has a way of stifling that exact self-expression that a teacher of a second language tries hard to cultivate.
On another topic, we here at ABC have absolutely no problem with helping our students with their Chinese school English work. We would love to see them succeed in all avenues of learning. Should your child need extra help, just have them bring the materials that they are having difficulty with. We are considering ways of incorporating this into our class time. Please bear in mind that our students come from many different schools and the curriculum is different in each. This does make it harder to help everyone at the same time. But with some material from each, we should be able to help your child prepare for upcoming tests, exams, etc. We will do our best to do so.

親愛的家長:
昨天我們已考完此次的月考,盼能一起關心孩子們在ABC學習英文的狀況,並給予指導。
這個月我們教了兩個故事「Tops and Bottoms」及「William’s House」。由於孩子們的學習程度愈來愈高,我會利用時間把課文錄下來,請孩子在家跟著CD念課文,同時也可糾正孩子的發音。
有些家長很擔心文法的問題,這個月我們教到了單複數的所有格,我花了相當長的時間解釋,相信孩子們都已充分理解了。
在此,我想藉機表達個人對學習語文的看法。目前台灣許多的補習班所教的英文太重視文法了,導致於孩子們不太敢開口說英語(當然基本的文法是必需的)。當我在教孩子們時,會比較注重在閱讀、寫作和會話方面,我盡量不去立即糾正孩子的文法上的錯誤,這樣容易讓孩子感到困擾。當我和孩子對話時,我鼓勵他們自然而然地用英文表達自己的看法,而不會擔心我不斷糾正他們的文法。非英語系國家的英文老師強調文法的作法反而扼殺了學生自我表達的本能。
另外,在ABC的全體老師萬分樂意解答他們在小學裡的英文課業問題。我們希望看到孩子在每種學習英文的管道中獲得成就感。事實上我們也正設法將它融入在ABC的課堂上。但不諱言地,因為每位學生來自不同的小學,教材也不盡相同,在同一時間裡幫助每位學生有一定的難度;但我們會盡全力也有信心幫忙您的孩子準備將來的考試。

今天在ABC舉辦的聖誕節晚會,由千里迢迢趕到的聖誕老人帶我們唱了Jingle Bells,Santa claus is coming to town等歌曲,還請小朋友回答關於聖誕節的小問題,小朋友們互相交換聖誕禮物,最後是享用大家精心準備的耶誕餐點,瞧!大家真是開心呢!

ABC 祝福大家 新年快樂 萬事如意

親愛的家長:

一元復始‚萬象更新!
希望在這新的一年‚ 各位家長心想事成‚ 經濟會更好‚ 敬請支持ABC!
很快的一年又過去了‚檢視去年孩子們學習英文的狀況‚大部份都有進步‚但少部份仍需努力。學習語文是長期計畫,在此我想提出幾個問題‚請親愛的家長們想想看孩子們是否有做到。

1. 「工欲善其事‚必先利其器」: 孩子們有沒有一本適合的英文字典?
2. 課前預習‚課後複習: 有了好的字典‚孩子們應沒有理由偷懶。課前把不懂的單字先查出來‚課堂上聽老師的英英解釋‚ 課後再稍加複習‚必能事半功倍。
3. 每日必讀課文: 每一課教2個星期(G.1除外)‚ 每天利用時間唸10~15分鐘的課文(我常告訴孩子把課文當故事唸)‚可以增進孩子的閱讀、理解及寫作能力。
4. 每日必簽聯絡簿: 靠著聯絡簿能多瞭解孩子的學習狀況‚並看看孩子有否得到獎勵章(stamp)‚ 可以集章換禮物喔。

Spring 2008(2008 春季班) 將於2月12日與國中、小同時開課,並於7月4(五)結束。隨函附上貴寶貝之課程表、行事曆及學費單。1月18日前完成註冊並繳交全期學費者‚可享英文班500元學費優惠、課輔班500元學費優惠。 在這經濟不景氣聲中‚不無小補‚敬請把握機會!
